Lighting up Lesotho’s future
Khantša Energy
We provide solar power to rural communities, tackle energy poverty, and offer affordable energy solutions throughout Lesotho.
We are "lighting up Lesotho's future" by providing renewable energy to the Basotho Highlands through co-creating sustainability interventions that take the lead from indigenous societies in our work.
In Lesotho, there are currently 1.2 million Basotho living without grid supplied electricity – that is 55% of the population. With proposed electrification plans targeting urban areas as opposed to remote villages in the highlands due to the largely mountainous terrain of the country, rural access is likely to remain low.
Khantša, which means ‘To light up’ in Sesotho, inspired our name as we look to eradicate energy poverty in Lesotho, which remains one of the lowest in Africa.
Our vision is for Lesotho to become one of the leading clean energy countries in Africa by harnessing existing potential of renewable energy.
We believe we can actively contribute to the socio-economic development of Basotho, the vast majority of whom are unelectrified and living in extreme poverty.
Through our 'Light up the future’ strategy we create innovative, community inclusive energy, and climate adaptation solutions.
Electricity connections are rendered virtually impossible in the Lesotho Highlands due to the mountainous terrain and lack of infrastructure.
Our aim is to directly address this challenge through by providing affordable and accessible renewable energy solutions in the pursuit of equality, dignity, and equal opportunity to achieve a better life for all Basotho.
